Gold Star families from South Dakota get monument recognizing their sacrifice
'It's not a fraternity you want to be a part of'
It took less than a year for the Sioux Falls community to step up, donate the money, and get the job done.
That job was unveiled to the public on Sunday. Hundreds turned out to see the dedication of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at Veterans Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.
Fundraising for the $105,000 monument didn’t start until Jan. 15, said Rex Rolfing, a member of the committee that raised money for the project.
And yet, here it was. A completed monument.
Gold Star families are the survivors of immediate family members who died serving their country.
