Former Miss South Dakota, Trump staffer running for South Dakota Legislature
Amber Hulse of Hot Springs will challenge Sen. Julie Frye-Mueller for Senate seat
A Black Hills woman who has worked for both President Donald Trump and Gov. Kristi Noem wants a seat in the South Dakota Legislature.
Republican Amber Hulse of Hot Springs announced her candidacy Tuesday morning in the upcoming District 30 state Senate race, becoming the first to officially declare for the position held by Sen. Julie Frye-Mueller since 2021.
“I have made the choice to run for the Senate because I saw a need in my community that called me to public service,” Hulse said in a statement provided to The Dakota Scout. “In Pierre, I will always put your needs and the needs of our state and community first.”
A graduate of the University of South Dakota wrapping up a law degree with Georgetown Law in Washington D.C., Hulse, 25, is no stranger to politics. She’s worked in the offices of U.S. Sen. John Thune and former Secretary of State Shantel Krebs and interned in the Trump White House. Hulse also spent the summer working as a legal clerk in Gov. Kristi Noem’s office.
