Former chief of staff to Kristi Noem gets six-digit state contract
D.C. lobbyist hired to represent South Dakota on Capitol Hill
Gov. Kristi Noem has hired her former chief of staff to engage in federal lobbying on behalf of the governor and her office, paying him $120,000.
The contract with Stoick Consulting calls for the company to be paid in 12 equal monthly payments. The contract started May 1 and runs through April 30, 2025.
Stoick Consulting was recently created by Jordan Stoick, who served as Noem’s first chief of staff after she won her congressional seat in 2010. Stoick left Noem’s office in 2017 as she prepared to run for governor, taking a job with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In 2018, he left the Treasury to become senior vice president of policy and government relations for the National Association of Manufacturers.
South Dakota government agencies have employed federal lobbyists in the past. For example, South Dakota State University has long employed the Bockorny Group. Other universities and the state Department of Transportation have also used lobbyists.
