Finding fraudsters: One of AG Marty Jackley's theft prevention reforms moves forward
Internal Control Board would be given more power, additional resources
A key piece of Attorney General Marty Jackley’s drive to add anti-fraud guardrails to state government won approval from a Senate committee Monday.
Senate Bill 61 passed after Jackley worked with State Auditor Rich Sattgast and the Bureau of Finance and Management to address concerns about changes Jackley sought to the state’s Internal Control Board. That board was created in 2016, and Jackley wants to beef it up following a series of high-profile scandals involving state employees.
He cited one of those – the alleged theft of $1.8 million in foster care funding by a Department of Social Services employee – as an example of how the board needs to be improved.
“That’s the stuff we want to prevent,” he said.
