Feds suspend permit for state's Meade County shooting range project
Army Corps of Engineers says state not in compliance with national regulations
An effort to build an ultramodern shooting range in western South Dakota could be in jeopardy after federal officials suspended a permit necessary for construction.
A letter sent late last month to Game, Fish and Parks (GF&P) Secretary Kevin Robling, says a failure by state officials to comply with federal regulations regarding preservation of historic properties, and of “previously unknown remains and artifacts” has prompted the the Army’s Corps of Engineers to suspend a permit for the project.
“We are notifying you that the NWP (nationwide permits) verifications, are suspended until the District Engineer considers whether the verifications should be reinstated, modified or revoked,” the letter, obtained by The Dakota Scout, reads.
