Families chip in $1.3M to extend Sioux Falls bike trail in 2025
S.F. Parks Foundation gift will add one-mile section
The city of Sioux Falls' already-esteemed recreation trail system is getting a $1.3 million philanthropic boost.
The Sioux Falls Parks Foundation and the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesday announced that plans to extend the multi-use trail system in northeastern Sioux Falls from Lien Park to Bahnson Avenue will be covered using $1.3 million in donations from two Sioux Falls families — Jeff and Tammie Broin and the Ashby family.
“We are so grateful to the Broin and Ashby families for their generosity and vision,” said Jenny Kirby, chair of the Sioux Falls Parks Foundation. “Because of people like them, we are able to continue to make Sioux Falls a beautiful place to call home.”
The new section of the trail will include a 1-mile addition, extending the current trail east and elevating the boardwalk area on that section of the trail.
“This section of the path helps bring recreational opportunities to more people in northeastern Sioux Falls and is a priority trail corridor in the Sioux Falls Bicycle Master Plan,” said Don Kearney, director of parks and recreation for the City of Sioux Falls. “We are so grateful to the Ashby and Broin families for their generosity.”
The Sioux Falls Parks Foundation, an affiliate of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, seeks to align philanthropic investment in the city parks system with the community’s vision.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2025.
