Falls Park to get new bridge, farmer's market area
Officials unveil some details of master plan to one of state's top destination spots
The “signature park” of Sioux Falls will be getting a facelift and a new marketing tag when officials release a new master plan for Falls Park Thursday night.
The city hosted a sneak-peak of the new plan on Wednesday morning. Details include a new pedestrian bridge to replace the current structure that is too narrow to accommodate visitors at peak times who want to gaze at the falls of the Big Sioux River. More than a million visitors go to the park each year, making it one of the state’s top destinations.
The master plan will be set in phases, according to Jon Jacobson, the senior principal and vice president of Confluence, the group that has assisted the city on park and river development and won a design contest to redesign the park. The plan will extend from Falls Park to Cliff Avenue.
