Embattled state senator will not seek re-election in 2024
Castleberry is being required to return more than $600,000 in state funds.
A state lawmaker accused of illegally accepting funds from the state of South Dakota will not seek re-election.
Sen. Jessica Castleberry will not pursue a third full term in the South Dakota Legislature following revelations a childcare business she owns accepted more than $600,000 in state daycare grants, a violation of the South Dakota Constitution, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
And since Attorney General Marty Jackley publicly called for the Pennington County legislator to return the funds or face criminal penalty, Castleberry has told numerous colleagues she will not run for the office again in 2024, according to multiple sources of The Dakota Scout.
