Effort to remove voting centers from state law fails
County auditors and state officials lobbied to keep the option to use voting centers and traditional precincts
South Dakota senators rejected an effort to outlaw the use of election voting centers following a push by county auditors from across the state to keep the status quo.
On the other side of the issue were voting integrity activists who are concerned by the use of electronic poll pads at voting centers. They worry those could be hacked.
The final vote on the Senate floor Tuesday was 13 for eliminating voting centers and 22 against.
