Fully approve of the phonics approach.

The "Whole Language" approach is simply useless for young children. Until a child learns to break a word down into constituant letters, and reassemble the sound, they are not reading. They cannot learn a new, novel word.

What is even more amazing is that somehow the choice of "phonics" vs "whole language" has become politicized. That's completely nuts. Phonics works. Whole language does not.

I learned with phonics. A curriculum called VOWAC. I believe it's based out of South Dakota.

I agree, although I didn’t realize it was political.
