South Dakota rep plays role in negotiating a peaceful outcome in gavel vote
After a long first day of the 119th Congress Friday, South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson says the path is open for a Republican majority to begin crafting legislation to send to his GOP colleagues in the Senate.
But that path, he conceded, is narrow.
While the GOP controls a majority following the November election, it can only concede a single vote to get anything passed in the 435-member chamber, due in part to President-elect Donald Trump nominating three Republican congressmen to cabinet positions.
