Drama accompanies final vote on campaign finance reform

PIERRE – A bill that sought to close a loophole in the state’s campaign finance laws was weighted by opposition as it moved through the Legislature, but it staggered across the finish line Wednesday in the House of Representatives.
But not before a debate in which Speaker of the House Jon Hansen had to gavel down a colleague for attacking the bill’s prime sponsor on the House floor.
Senate Bill 12 prohibits a political candidate or political action committee from accepting a loan from a person that exceeds what candidates and PACs can legally take in contributions.
