The president of Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. is stepping down after almost a decade in the role.
Joe Batcheller’s last day will be Dec. 20, according to a statement from DTSF that said he’s leaving “to pursue professional opportunities” outside the organization.
During his time at DTSF, the organization launched its ambassador program, which partners with law enforcement to keep the downtown safe while beautifying the streets and sidewalks and promoting local businesses.
Batcheller also helped update the Business Improvement District growth plan, which financially supports bettering the downtown, in addition to a variety of placemaking and marketing initiatives including multiple new special events.
“We’re grateful for Joe’s passion for growing DTSF’s culture, community and commerce. With an economic impact of more than $5 million annually, DTSF is vital to the city and the region, and Joe understands the organization’s value and importance,” DTSF chair Vaney Hariri said in a statement.
DTSF vice president Brandon Hanson will serve as acting president while the organization’s board of directors works through a transition plan and prepares to hire the next president.
“I have the utmost gratitude for my time at DTSF and the incredible people I was privileged to work alongside for the betterment of Downtown Sioux Falls. I am proud to have had the opportunity to lead positive changes for the heart of Sioux Falls and will continue to support and advocate for it,” Batcheller said.
“While it was a hard decision, as my passion for downtown runs deep, I’ve decided it is time for a change and to pursue other professional endeavors.”
