Downtown ice-ribbon’s opening to precede playground, splashpad, dog park at Jacobson Plaza
Sioux Falls readies for new attractions in heart of city
Ice skating in the heart of South Dakota’s largest city will soon be a reality.
The $20 million Jacobson Plaza, under construction on the north end of downtown Sioux Falls, will bring more than just winter recreation and a 14,000-square-foot ice ribbon to the city's core. A dog park, an aquatics splash pad, a full-scale playground, and year-round event space are anticipated to attract tens of thousands of visitors to one of the fastest-developing areas of the Queen City.
“Our hope and our goal and vision is to make this a place for people all year round,” Sioux Falls Recreation Manager Jackie Nelson said this week while briefing city councilors about progress on the Jacobson Plaza, which will sit north of the Levitt at the Falls campus and The Steel District and across Phillips Avenue east of The Cascades at the Falls.
