Downtown development booming as Sioux Falls looks to 2035
Check out this rundown of high-profile projects City Hall hopes to build over next decade
Urban planners at City Hall are gearing up for the next decade of Sioux Falls development with an eye on building on momentum that’s already transforming downtown.
The Mayor’s Office and the Sioux Falls Planning and Development Services Department this month are launching what they’re calling the Horizon 2035 Downtown Plan, which will be developed in the coming months as the city gathers information, studies the city’s core and learns from a citizen advisory committee.
“By 2035, downtown Sioux Falls will transform into a world-class urban environment where people from all walks of life are invited to not only live, work, and play, but to dream and thrive,” reads the working vision statement associated with the pending development plan. “People will see and experience a spirit of South Dakota hospitality, creativity, and community during each of our four seasons. Downtown will be a new frontier for the arts, culture, commerce, and entrepreneurship.”
Part of the Horizon 2035 Downtown Plan rollout — presented to Sioux Falls city councilors Tuesday afternoon — will focus on capturing opportunities created by the successes of the past decade, said Dustin Power, a development planner in City Hall.
And that includes a host of projects tackled by both the public and private sectors in recent years. Here’s a look at a few of them:
