District 13 Republican candidates reshuffle brings clarity ahead of next year's primary election
Sioux Falls area lawmakers announce future plans
Paths back to the state Capitol got a bit clearer this week for a pair of Republican lawmakers in a key Sioux Falls legislative district.
Rep. Tony Venhuizen and Sen. Jack Kolbeck Wednesday both made campaign announcements about their plans for the 2024 election in District 13, with the former opting to seek reelection and forgo a run at the South Dakota Senate seat Kolbeck will term out of next year.
Meanwhile, Kolbeck also announced he does not intend to run for the House.
“It has been more than an honor and a privilege to represent the great people of District 13 and the state of South Dakota while serving in the Senate,” Kolbeck said in a statement provided to The Dakota Scout. “I have decided not to pursue, as law permits, the seat in the District 13 to the House of Representatives.”
