COUNTERPOINT | Capital social battles divide South Dakota

Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, a conservative Republican, recently encouraged the members of the South Dakota Legislature to focus on issues affecting the quality of life of the nearly 225,000 citizens living in this city, and the rest of the state, rather than continually delving into what are now called, “Culture Wars.”
I have lived in South Dakota more than 50 years. Ten years of that time I was mayor of Sioux Falls. I agree with the Mayor’s comments.
What is the definition of “Culture Wars?” Here is mine:
When one group attempts to control another, thru coercion, intimidation, torment and demonizing.
