Consultant: Fairground rebuild could cost Minnehaha County more than $100 million
40-page report says location is an asset for fairground, other events
Overhauling the W.H Lyon Fairgrounds to be a premier events hosting location in the region would cost Minnehaha County between $84 million and $105 million.
That’s according to a consultant hired by the county earlier this year to help a task force studying the long-term viability of the fairground site in north-central Sioux Falls.
But county officials say without major partnerships from the private sector or other governmental jurisdictions, rebuilding the campus there to include more flat floor space, meeting rooms and upgraded livestock facilities likely isn’t affordable for the often cash-strapped county.
