Community rallies to thwart closure of one of South Dakota’s last country schools
Cheyenne Rural School has faced threat of closure by district for at least three months
FORT PIERRE – A unanimous vote by the Stanley County School Board has safeguarded the immediate future of the district’s sole remaining country school.
The board received a resounding round of applause Wednesday evening as it voted 5-0 to keep open and continue to fund the Cheyenne Rural School, located approximately 25 miles north of Hayes.
Board member Chris Fosheim acknowledged the impact of community input on their decision.
“All the info you have brought to the table has helped us make a decision,” he stated.
