CO2 pipeline moratorium in South Dakota halfway to governor's desk
Legislators considering halting all carbon dioxide construction until federal regulators adopt safety rules
PIERRE — A majority of lawmakers in the South Dakota House of Representatives want a moratorium on any carbon dioxide pipeline construction until federal safety regulations are in place.
House Bill 1085, sponsored by Rep. Richard Vasgaard, passed 40-30 Tuesday after a lengthy debate about balancing safety and economic development.
