A Guatemala man who served prison time for sexually exploiting a girl in Sioux Falls is attempting to avoid deportation by appealing to a federal immigration court.
Juan Garcia-Corado was released from prison in September, according to South Dakota Department of Corrections records. His felony convictions had led Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to place a detainer on him when he was released. The purpose of the detainer was to remove him from the country.
ICE agents moved to deport Garcia-Corado in September, after he was released from the South Dakota State Penitentiary. But he has blocked the deportation order. A law firm in Minneapolis is assisting him in fighting the deportation order.
