Cannabis group wants anti-pot lawmaker's medical marijuana license revoked
Cannabis Industry Association of South Dakota contends Rep. Fred Deutsch intentionally broke the law by gaming state program.
The South Dakota cannabis industry’s lobbying arm wants the state to pull the medical marijuana ID card issued to a lawmaker who says he shouldn’t have qualified to legally use the drug.
The Cannabis Industry Association of South Dakota on Monday submitted a formal request to the South Dakota Department of Health asking that it remove Rep. Fred Deutsch from the state medical marijuana program, and revoke the medical marijuana ID card the Florence Republican received last month.
“Rep. Deutsch is clear that he does not have a qualifying medical condition — the fundamental requirement in 34-20G-1. Thus, his possession of a medical card appears to be in violation of the chapter,” CIASD President Deb Peters said in written remarks provided to The Dakota Scout.
