Bloomberg picks Sioux Falls, TenHaken for city development initiative
Program targets homelessness, affordable housing solutions using data
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is among fewer than two dozen mayors from around the world tapped for a year-long Bloomberg initiative to help their cities better address challenges like affordable housing, healthcare access and homelessness.
The mayor’s office Monday announced TenHaken and the city have been selected to participate in the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance, a program that aims to teach public leaders how to use data to bolster and optimize city operations and improve quality of life.
“This program is an opportunity for Sioux Falls to not only better understand how data can help us deliver community needs more effectively, but also to collaborate and learn from cities of all sizes around the world,” TenHaken said.
In all, just 20 mayors from 11 U.S. states and nine Latin American cities were selected to participate in the program, a product of Bloomberg Industries, founded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
