Big changes coming for Outdoor Campus

$7 million renovation would include new ranges, classrooms

It’s the Outdoor Campus message that has been heard and heeded for 26 years. Though programs and events have grown in numbers and popularity, the facility hasn’t.

That will all be changing. In July, the Outdoor Campus will undergo a $7 million expansion and remodel that will provide more space and facilities for its ever-growing programs.

In was in 1990 that South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) and Sioux Falls Park and Recreation (SFPR) began to have discussions on creating a facility that would meet a set of criteria and goals: Introduce and empower people of all ages to enjoy hunting, fishing and the outdoors; create a new GFP Region 3 office; preserve green space within Sioux Falls; and bolster the mission and vision of both GFP and SFPR.
