Audit of primary election in Minnehaha County stretches into Tuesday evening
Results of the audit not expected until Wednesday as state deadline nears
A hand-counted audit of the June 4 primary election in Minnehaha County was expected to go later into Tuesday evening after starting earlier that morning.
Minnehaha County Auditor Leah Anderson had contemplated finishing the hand count of the more than 13,000 ballots cast in 81 precincts on Wednesday. But at about 5:15 p.m., she announced to the members of her audit board that the State Attorney’s Office told her that legally the audit could not resume tomorrow.
By then, some members of her audit board had already started departing. Anderson asked for a majority to stay into the evening, assuring them they had only one box of ballots remaining.
