Attorney General: South Dakota supervisors didn’t act on corruption reports
Department of Public Safety contends proper protocols were followed before elevating suspected misconduct by former employee
A state agency is being accused of failing to respond to employee misconduct despite high-ranking South Dakota officials being made aware of alleged infractions.
While revealing that state investigators are probing three new reports of illegal activity involving current or former state employees — separate from six other indictments or convictions in recent months involving public corruption — Attorney General Marty Jackley said this week some of those cases have stemmed from whistleblowers reporting misconduct to his office. And in at least one case, reports of wrongdoing made within a department where alleged infractions occurred were ignored, he said.
