AG Jackley, tarnished Missouri House speaker, brief lawmakers on ethics
Jackley: Closed-door meeting allows full airing of concerns
PIERRE – For all the world, many of the lawmakers shuffling into a fourth-floor conference room at the state Capitol Wednesday looked as if they were walking into a dentist appointment.
Not thrilled at having to be there – one said he was happy to be leaving early for a doctor’s appointment in an hour. Another said, “I don’t want anybody to accuse me of playing fast and loose.”
They were headed to a briefing on ethics hosted by Attorney General Marty Jackley. And they were joined by a special guest, Rod Jetton, the former speaker of the House in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Jackley, on his second stint as attorney general, routinely gave ethics briefings to lawmakers at the start of each session. He said the last one he gave when he was previously in office was in 2017. He wasn’t aware of any occurring during the period when he wasn’t attorney general.
